I have known Cheryl from Cheryl's Stitching for many years.  She is a kind, funny, supportive and loving person and I am grateful for her friendship.  This year she had a special birthday and what do you get the girl who has everything (well that's what her husband tells me!!).
What about a sewing day?
You know I like to make soft toys - come on down and we will make a little something.
Bring your gumboots and track suit pants because we are surrounded by mud and it's cold and we certainly aren't fancy.
I will get ready..
Gosh it look's like we are getting ready for surgery..
He will always now be known as Cheryl's Deer..
He is sitting and waiting to be sewn, stuffed and taken home..
Roll on the weekend.

I wish I could insert a baby scan photo here or a photo of a new bundle of joy but not this time.

This time I would like you to meet Dusty..
Looks like a handful right?
Settled right in amongst the boots (you would like a family of 50 lived here with all those boots).
We have VERY special visitors coming to stay soon, I hope he starts to sleep through the night and learns to behave a little more before they get here.

I spent the weekend at Phillip Island at the Patches weekend held by Phillip Island Patchwork Group.  The Group does an amazing job looking after 130 very enthusiastic ladies for the Mother's Day weekend.  The Saturday Night review was a hoot and we were all very spoilt with goody bags, food, wonderful tutors and great company.  I bumped into the beautiful Jo from ButterZ she was head down and bum up working very hard (I'm only hoping she doesn't post the photo she took of me or I'll die of embarrassment)....
So are you ready to see my achievement?
I know your thinking she was there for two days but I work on the motto quality not quantity lol..
Then I came home to this....
My mothers day present from my amazing family wrapped and decorated in beautiful paper...
When I opened the box I thought it said Flowers and I thought how wonderful and then the kids started laughing and it said Fowlers (preserving kit) and yep I had my glasses on...
And then we ate these..
What a wonderful mother's day weekend.
Hope yours was wonderful too..

Thursday, 7 May 2015

So I was a bit disappointed that the bag pattern didn't have all the pattern sheets - I will muddle through it will just take a little longer.
So I looked back in the cupboard and there was a little kit I knew I could knock up relatively quickly.  It was just a panel quilt I bought about three years ago just in case I ever had a grand son.  Well I have one so I pulled it out and got cracking.  I don't seem to be having much luck lately with patterns and kits that I have purchased.  My Christmas quilt didn't have enough or the right lengths of fabric, the chenille quilt had errors in the pattern, the bag was missing pattern pieces and fabric and this simple little quilt - well I don't know what panel she had but the one I had and the instructions given and no photo were not going to get this made.  So I did this..
Got out the graph paper and worked out what to do.
Cut some fabric...
Got sewing..
Starting to take shape...
Cute hey.....
If it wasn't for the time spent on the graph I probably would have got it finished.  Baby sitting day tomorrow and out for the next couple of days so hopefully it will be finished early next week..

You didn't think it was possible did you - two quilts finished in two weeks..
It needs a good press and a little brush to get the fluff off and then off to the quilter...(poor quilter it's a little lumpy in a couple of places)....
So back to the cupboard for the next one....
That one middle row at the front looks good - oh look I bought it in 2004 when I was just a wee slip of a thing..
But on opening the pattern the front page of the instructions are missing and when I opened the kit it doesn't have all the fabric needed in it.....oh well I'll muddle through serves me right for not checking 11 years ago......
Let's see how long this takes..

I am committed to making a dent in my cupboard of chaos.  I thought about auditioning kits and patterns to see which ones I liked best or maybe even make a list....instead I just reached in the back and pulled one out.
It was a simple strip quilt so I got cutting...
And sewing..
Then I had to cut this...
I love chenille, especially in quilts the only trouble is when you cut it it's like a snow storm!!
The sewing room floor was covered and so was I.
Not long after...
Just the border which I hope to get on tomorrow.

I know there where some who doubted my strength and ability of being able to go into a Patchwork shop and only buy the backing for my Christmas quilt but tah dah..
Yep just the backing fabric from the shop...
But somehow this little parcel turned up in the mail...
Well you can't quilt without thread can you??
